Winifred Ethel Anstey World War One Hero

We have uploaded to the World War One Roll of Honour a biography of Winfred Ethel Anstey of the Tywardreath Ansteys, who was born in New Zealand and served as a Nurse on various Hospital Ships during the war. She also managed to survive after a ship that she was on was hit by a German torpedo in 1915, causing it to sink in less than 15 minutes.

Anybody who has information they would like to add to this biography, please contact us at

Anybody who has researched their Anstey ancestors’ wartime heroics and wishes for their findings to be uploaded to the Anstey story project website, feel free to contact us.
