We have uploaded to the World War One Roll of Honour a biography of William Anstee, very likely a Flamstead Anstee, who was attached to the Mercantile Marine (Reserve) Regiment during the war when on 19 October 1917 he was an Able Seaman aboard ‘S.S. Hazelwood‘ which was torpedoed east of Portland Bill by a German U-Boat, sinking quickly and losing all 32 men on board, including William.
Anybody who has information they would like to add to this biography please contact us at research@theansteystory.com.
Anybody who has researched their Anstey ancestors’ wartime heroics and wishes for their findings to be uploaded to the Anstey story project website, feel free to contact us.
