Arthur Anstey (CO 16)

See ‘Anstey: A Complete History From the Norman Invasion to World War One‘ for much more on the Coleshill Ansteys. In addition to biographies of various Anstey individuals who make up this sub-branch, the book contains a plethora of Anstey research and statistics, including an analysis of how the Coleshill Ansteys fit into the pedigree descendent from Hubert de Anesti, the 12th century originator of the ‘Anstey’ surname.

CO 16. Arthur Anstey: He was born in 1874 in Coventry to father Arthur Anstey (CO 13). He married Selina Maria Athersuch on 2 February 1896 in Coventry and had children:

  • Arthur Anstey (CO 27 – b 1896, served during World War One);
  • Louise Anstey (b 1901);
  • Alfred Anstey (b 1907); and
  • Raymond H. Anstey (b 8 September 1917).

In the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses Arthur was a cycle plate polisher living at 36 Russell Street Coventry. He was still there in the 1939 Register – still a plate polisher at a motor works.
