Alfred Ernest Anstey (b 1870)

Alfred Ernest Anstey, a member of the Dyrham Anstees, was born in 1870 in Newington to parents George Joseph Anstey and Elizabeth Sutton; he was brother to fellow Anstey Hero Herbert William Anstey. He grew up living at 7, Warwick Street, Lambeth then in 1897 in Lambeth he married Eliza French. They had children Alfred Herbert Anstey (b 1898 Gateshead – an Anstey Hero); Grace Mary Anstey (b 1900 Lambeth); Ernest Gordon Anstey (b 1904 Lambeth); Edwin Wilfred Anstey (b 1905 St Olave); and William Anstey (b 1911 Walworth).

In the 1901 Census the family were living at 18, Meadows Road, Lambeth where Alfred was a coachman, and by the 1911 Census they were living at 6 Balfour Terrace Rodney Road Walworth where he was an undertaker coachman.
