Gary Mark Anstey (known as Gary) is a member of the Stoke Gifford Anstey sub-branch. He is the chief researcher of the Anstey Story project, contactable at research@theansteystory.com.
Gary was born in Nottingham in 1966 and, after studying Mathematics at Churchill College, Cambridge University, became a Swaps Trader at an international financial institution. In 1992, Gary was expatriated to the Far East, where he has remained ever since; currently he is living in Singapore.
In 2014, Gary began to research his ancestry, and in 2015 he became the ‘Anstey’ surname representative for the Guild of One-Name Studies. In mid-2016, Gary took on the gargantuan task of transcribing, documenting and analysing the entirety of his great granduncle Tom’s early 20th century Anstey research, which ran to many hundreds of letters and yet more hundreds of pages of notes, pedigree charts and other genealogical goodies. Gary merged Tom’s findings with his own independent research to form what is now a vast body of family and Anstey-based ancestral knowledge.
Gary and Tom between them (with help from other researchers of course) have now constructed the entirety of the Anstey family pedigree and they are the overseers and chief researchers of this ‘Anstey Story’ project. They have currently co-authored four books on the Ansteys, the first of which,
‘Anstey: Our True Surname Origin and Shared Medieval Ancestry‘
is now in its third edition, and is available for purchase at Amazon USA, Amazon UK, Amazon Singapore, Amazon Australia and Amazon Canada.

He is also currently drafting the book
‘ANSTEY: A Complete History from the Norman Invasion to World War One‘
which will be published in 2024.
