Frank Selvil Anstey (b 1900)

by Gary. M. Ansteychief researcher of the Anstey story project.

Frank Selvil Anstey, a member of the East Stoke Ansteys, was born on 24 October 1900 in Llandudno, Penrhyn, Caernarvonshire to parents Henry Anstey and Annie Wood. His early years were spent living in Penrhyn, though by 1909 he was attending Cardington Church of England School, and by the 1911 Census he was living with his parents at Honeysuckle House, Cardington.

Due to his age Frank did not sign up for service during World War One until it was in its final year, on 6 May 1918 “aged 17 years and 7 months” – at this time he was a motor mechanic, giving his mother Annie, living at 2 Dorset Street, Shrewsbury, as his next of kin. He was posted to the Royal Air Force as a Private (Service Number: 164882) and served at least some of his time with ‘6 AAP‘ unit, before being transferred to RAF ‘G’ Reserve on 13 November 1919.

Frank married Abigail Davies in 1925 in Atcham – we find no children of this union – and by the 1939 Register they were living at 1 Chapel Cottage, Annscroft, Atcham, where he was working as a Bread Salesman (Motor Van).

Frank died in 1987 in Shrewsbury.
