Stoke Gifford Ansteys Overview
The Stoke Gifford Ansteys, the sub-branch to which I (Gary) and fellow chief researcher Tom belong, trace their origins to John Anstey (SG 1), who was baptised in 1751 in Iron Acton to parents William Anstie (DY 7) and Amy Parks. Hence the Stoke Gifford Ansteys are a sub-branch of the Dyrham Ansteys. John’s brother Thomas Anstey (SG 2) played a huge part in the early years of this sub-branch and is effectively the Stoke Gifford Anstey co-patriarch.
The entirety of the Stoke Gifford Anstey pedigree has now been mapped out and the lives of all of the early members is known in great detail. They are all thoroughly documented in the book
‘ANSTEY: The Stoke Gifford Branch‘
This is the fourth book co-authored by Gary and Tom, the first edition of which was privately printed in September 2019.

Also see ‘Anstey: A Complete History From the Norman Invasion to World War One‘.
Sub-branches of the Stoke Gifford Ansteys are the:
- Cumberland, Iowa Ansteys
- Grand River, Iowa Ansteys
- Grant, Wisconsin Ansteys
- Llandenny Ansteys
- Massena, Iowa Ansteys
