Houghton Regis Anstees Overview
The Houghton Regis Anstees are a sub-branch of the Swanbourne Anstees via the Prittlewell Anstees. Even though the first patriarch of the Houghton Regis Anstees is Edward Anstee (HR 1), who was in Houghton Regis by c1715, that line became Anstey-extinct. Hence the patriarch of the modern day Houghton Regis Anstees is Joseph Anstee Junior (HR 2) who arrived in Houghton Regis in c1760 from Prittlewell.

Further Details on Houghton Regis Anstees
#1. William Anstee (SW 23) who married Rebecca Parkins in Houghton Regis in 1766 is a Swanbourne Anstee.
#2. Bedford Marriage Licenses 1747-1790 and Bedford Marriage Licenses 1791-1812 involving Houghton Regis Anstees, by Marsha Stringer.
#3. Bedford Archive References involving Houghton Regis Anstees, by Marsha Stringer.
#4. Anstee BMD in Houghton Regis by Marsha Stringer.
#5. Anstee Non-Conformist BMD Houghton Regis/Hitchen by Marsha Stringer
#6. There is an Anstee Road in Luton – it is almost certainly named after a Toddington Anstee (a sub-branch of the Houghton Regis Anstees).
#7. Surely of this sub-branch Sidney Alfred Anstee was born in q4 1865 (some sources say 30 October 1866) in Luton to mother Maria Anstee (b 1849 Luton). In 1881 Maria was a “married” draper living with her son at 5, Hw Road, Chelsea. After this we lose track of them (certainly we cannot locate him in the 1911 Census) until as far as we know in 1939 he was an ‘unmarried‘ builder’s handyman and inmate at 129 The Lolington Institution St John’s Road, Islington. He may have married Bridget A Doherty in 1941 in Lambeth and he died in Islington in 1951 “age 84“- all of the above needs verification.
