The Barnet Anstees

by Gary. M. Ansteychief researcher of the Anstey story project.

Overview of the Barnet Anstees

The Barnet Anstees are a sub-branch of the Houghton Regis Anstees. The patriarch of the Barnet Anstees is Richard Anstee (BA 1). We also include Mill Hill, Hendon and South Mimms in this sub-branch analysis, where quite a few Barnet Anstees lived.

[Note ‘Barnet’ includes both Chipping Barnet in Hertfordshire, as well as Barnet in North London/Middlesex, of which Chipping Barnet became a part.]

Further Details on the Barnet Anstees

#1. William Austin Anstee (ED 14) had a family in Barnet in the 1860/70s, however he is of the Edlesborough Anstees.

#2. There was until recently an ‘Anstee’s Yard’ on Union Street in Barnet, surely named after Richard Anstee (BA 2), who owned a shop and dwelling house, as well as seven dwelling houses known as ‘Anstee’s Cottages’, in Union Street, Barnet in the 1890s.
