Joseph Anstee (PR 2)

See ‘Anstey: A Complete History From the Norman Invasion to World War One‘ for much more on the Prittlewell Anstees. In addition to biographies of various Anstey individuals who make up this sub-branch, the book contains a plethora of Anstey research and statistics, including an analysis of how the Prittlewell Anstees fit into the pedigree descendent from Hubert de Anesti, the 12th century originator of the ‘Anstey’ surname.

PR 2. Joseph Anstee: Known in later life as Joseph Senior, he was baptised on 9 June 1695 in Newton Longville to parents Benjamin Anstee (SW 13) and Mary. He married Elizabeth in c1725 and they had children in Prittlewell:

In later life he moved to Houghton Regis to live with his son Joseph Anstee Junior (HR 2 – who moved there in c1760). Perhaps this was in 1766 after his wife died in that year “xxx Anstee wife of Joseph buried in Prittlewell“. He acted as witness to Joseph Junior (HR 2)’s second marriage in Houghton Regis in 1772 and he died in Houghton Regis “aged 80” in 1774, buried there on 13 September 1774.
